KiDs' sumMa trip '19

Following a glorious family reunion in St. G, the boys and I headed off to Cali a couple of days before Tony could leave work. Yes, we came two weeks after a major earthquake, but no, we did not have any aftershocks while we were in So Cal, thank goodness!

We had planned this trip around a surprise for the boys, which was Legoland, due to their current obsession with Legos. We enjoyed a full, blazing hot day at the Carlsbad beach, which we chose for its proximity to our airbnb and Legoland.

Carlsbad State Beach.

Some funny moments on the beach happened to be when Reese dug a hole in the sand and then decided to stick his head in it; we had to dig the sand out of his ears a week later, despite multiple showers. Another hilarious thing was the size of these pizza slices, ordered from Knockout Pizza near the beach! They were legitimately, as big as the boys' heads - but nonetheless, delicious.

I hope they love the beach forever, like their mommy!

San Diego Zoo.

The trip to this expansive zoo was so well worth it, I wish we would have taken more than one day. Even after hours of walking, taking 2 bus tours, and the Skyfari ride multiple times, we still did not see everything we wanted to see. Just a bit of advice - just don't try to wear a cute outfit with those shoes - just don't do it. I'd read about "lots of walking", but took my chances and showed up with flat, plastic, Michael Kors sandals and quickly wished I'd had tennis shoes. So there's that. Also, we are the proud owners of San Diego Zoo sweaters, due to the fact that I'd assumed July weather in San Diego will be blistering that day, but lo and behold, most of the zoo is shaded and the high for the day was 65.
Yet, still - this place is magical, and the cooler weather actually encourages the animals to come out of their hiding places. Since we came at the opening of the doors, we were able to catch some pretty kitties which were hidden from view later in the day.

Our favorites included the koalas, the jaguar and the grizzly bear, mostly, because he swam and played in the water for us!

At the zoo closing, we were delighted by a very cool, tribal dance!

LEGOLAND.

Surprise, boys! They were so excited. Reese wasn't sure what to expect at first, as he is my cautious boy and hates loud noises from the rides. However, after a while, we all had excitement coming out of our ears; and we're glad Daddy finally joined us!

Don't they just ooze happiness? Look at those faces! So of course, we had to take a pic with all the characters we could find, except La-Loyd, as I call him. hehe Don't worry, I have ZERO idea who any of the other guys are, except the hot dog - cause's he's a hot dog.

Oh, just why me?

Since Legoland isn't that large of a park, we skipped the baby rides and did the bigger rides over and over, and over, and over. We had plenty of time to enjoy the 100 churros and ice cream cones, some yummy BBQ and overpriced soda pop! We even had so much fun, that we decided to do it again, the next day.

On the second day we ventured off into the water park, and after going on the log ride 3 times in the row, we froze our butts off, changed our clothes and returned back the mainland!
The boys were definitely exhausted, but well behaved to have earned another Lego set, which will eventually become more plastic to step on in their bedroom. Oh, we had so much fun!

Leo Carillo Historic Ranch.

This place was truly delightful and a step back in time. I loved it, and the kids found a peacock feather to keep. I'd highly recommend visiting if you have extra time or energy to burn off!

La Jolla Cove.

The most breathtaking place on the southwestern coast, literally! Alright, if you can stomach the smell of poop from hundreds of sea lions, they will reward you with their cuteness! Not to mention, the scenery is excellent! (although, parking is not)

We even saw the cutest babies!

Cliffhanger Cafe.
After spending time in La Jolla, we decided on a quick little cafe because I wasn't feeling well, but, of course, it came with a view and para gliders!

We had an amazing summer, which is coming to an end.....so, until our next trip!
