OBX June 2024
This June we've had the lovely privilege to be invited to Outer Banks, NC by our friends, C and B! The string of peninsulas is one of a kind, home to many gorgeous homes and sandy beaches, the Wright Brothers' Memorial and where some of my favorite show, Wicked Tuna, was filmed (long ago, apparently). https://www.outerbanks.org/wicked-tuna-outer-banks/
Of course, every vacation for me starts where we landed, this time, in Norfolk, VA. The first night we decided to see a little of the historic district and have dinner at the Freemason Abbey, church converted to a restaurant. Freemason Abbey was of course, beautiful inside, even if I am the only one who appreciated the architecture after getting up at 2am to head to the airport that morning.
Sunday
We embarked on another historic tour, a tour of decommissioned naval ships. They.were.amazing! I cannot believe the size of those things - they are so majestic and the technology available is something else, what pride those marines must have to a part of such incredible work. Thank you to all the men and women who have served our country, what an honor it was to get to see these ships, if only from a distance.

Monday
We had such a fun time at the beach, which was right across our back steps! The water was amazing and so warm.
Tuesday
Roanoke Island
We visited the ever so gorgeous Roanoke Island. We started out with the Elizabethan Gardens, drove through the gorgeous town of Manteo, had lunch at aforementioned Wicked Tuna restaurant called Poor Richard's, visited the gorgeous, yet simple, Roanoke Island Lighthouse, did some shopping and visited the Wanchese Marina (to do nothing other than to look for some boats from the show, apparently locals say "that was a long time ago", so we of course didn't see anything from the show, aside from the actual marina - but that's good enough for me). I absolutely loved the small town feel of this amazing place!

Wednesday - Lighthouses!
We drove up to Corolla, NC and then back down to Bodie Island to see these amazing beauties. We stopped for some ice cream, then headed on a nature walk near the Currituck Lighthouse - we saw exactly two snakes - yuck. We visited the majestic Currituck Lighthouse, ate lunch at a nearby sandwich shop and then headed down south. After the Bodie Lighthouse, we drove to the Oregon Inlet to see where Hard Merchandise (from Wicked Tuna) ran into the side of the bridge. We hung out at the beach in the afternoon.

Beach Day Again!
Friday - Wright Brothers' Memorial and more time at the beach!
I have to stop and marvel at the tenacity of these men and all those who helped them succeed - after all, we are enjoying this amazing vacation because airplanes could bring us here - now, how amazing is that?
Beach Time - Last day!
We had the bestest time - Outer Banks is beyond gorgeous, we can only hope to come back one day and enjoy all the beauty again! Thank you to our friends, C and B, K and B!
